Gerardo Hernandez Nava, a native of Maracaibo, Venezuela, is the eldest of two siblings. Born to parents Gerardo and Mayuri, he has a younger sister, Mayger.
His baseball journey began at the age of 3, playing in the garage of his grandmother’s house. With dreams of playing professional baseball, Nava represented his state and country in numerous national and international events, showcasing his talent and passion for the sport. While his ultimate goal was to sign with a professional team, life presented him with the opportunity to continue playing baseball at the collegiate level, where he truly thrived.
A versatile and determined athlete, Nava excelled as a catcher, earning recognition for his leadership and performance on the field. In 2009, he helped his team achieve a remarkable winning season despite the challenge of having only 12 players and the program facing uncertainty.
His personal accolades include being named MVP for the 2008 season and earning First Team All-Conference honors in both athletics and academics for the 2009 season.
Nava left an indelible mark as a standout baseball player at Tech. Renowned for his exceptional skills, unwavering dedication, and exemplary sportsmanship, he played a pivotal role in revitalizing the Golden Bears' baseball program during a challenging period in its history.
Off the field, Nava is a devoted family man. He is the proud father of two daughters, Emma and Eleonor, and the loving husband of Carin. His journey from Maracaibo to Tech’s Hall of Fame reflects his extraordinary resilience, passion, and commitment to excellence.
