Harold Moore

Harold Moore graduated from West Virginia Tech in 1961 with his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education & Biology. Prior to his accomplishments as a Golden Bear, Moore was selected to play in the Ohio-West Virginia All-Star Game.

During his career at Tech, Harold played halfback and linebacker, helping guide the Golden Bears to a 20-11-3 record over four years. In 1959 Moore was named “The Hardest Hitter” by then head coach, Ray Watson.

As a professional, Harold was a high school teacher in Charleston before moving to Florida where he coached and taught for three years. He moved back to West Virginia where he spent the next 28 years teaching biology and coaching football, basketball, track, baseball, wrestling, and golf. Moore also left his mark as an administrator, serving as Athletic Director at George Washington High School for 20 years.

During his coaching exploits, Moore won a State Championship in 1971 as an assistant coach and 2 State Championships in golf in 1988 and 1989 and a State Runner-Up in 1983. He was also named as the “West Virginia High School Coach of the Year” in 1989.

Harold remains active in his community with the Mason Order and Shriner Hospitals. He and his wife, Evelyn have 3 children, H. David Moore, Jason Moore and Heather Moore.
