CHARLESTON, West Virginia - With the help of three goals from freshman
Tristen Kilman, her first, second and third collegiate goals, and two from fellow classmate
Tyler Graves, the WVU Tech women's soccer team defeated Penn State Beaver 5-0 for their first shutout of the season. The Golden Bears move to 3-6-2 with the victory Wednesday afternoon at Schoenbaum Soccer Complex in Charleston, West Virginia.
The first goal for Tech was netted in the 22
nd minute by Graves after the freshman's fourth shot attempt. Kilman produced her first collegiate goal, unassisted in the 28th minute, only four minutes after she entered the game and on her first attempt of the day.
The second strike from Kilman came in the first half when freshman
Brooke Cogar sailed the perfect cross to Kilman in the 34
th minute, taking the score to 2-0 into half time.
In the final 35 minutes of the game, the Gold and Blue produced 15 shots and two more goals. Freshman
Summer Whipkey set up Graves for her second score while redshirt freshman
Anna Almeida helped Kilman add her third goal to secure the hat trick and Tech's shutout victory. Whipkey and Almeida both recorded their first career assists.
On the afternoon, Tech tallied 34 shots with eight from Kilman, four each from sophomore
Alyssa Capon, Graves and Whipkey and three from freshmen
Brittany Torres,
Lindsay Brumfield and
Rocio Ruiz-Berdejo to round out the top shooters.
Tech will be at Bluefield College in Bluefield, Virginia on Oct. 25 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
