Kilman Nets Three Goals, Tech Earns Shutout

CHARLESTON, West Virginia - With the help of three goals from freshman Tristen Kilman, her first, second and third collegiate goals, and two from fellow classmate Tyler Graves, the WVU Tech women's soccer team defeated Penn State Beaver 5-0 for their first shutout of the season. The Golden Bears move to 3-6-2 with the victory Wednesday afternoon at Schoenbaum Soccer Complex in Charleston, West Virginia.

The first goal for Tech was netted in the 22nd minute by Graves after the freshman's fourth shot attempt. Kilman produced her first collegiate goal, unassisted in the 28th minute, only four minutes after she entered the game and on her first attempt of the day.

The second strike from Kilman came in the first half when freshman Brooke Cogar sailed the perfect cross to Kilman in the 34th minute, taking the score to 2-0 into half time.

In the final 35 minutes of the game, the Gold and Blue produced 15 shots and two more goals. Freshman Summer Whipkey set up Graves for her second score while redshirt freshman Anna Almeida helped Kilman add her third goal to secure the hat trick and Tech's shutout victory. Whipkey and Almeida both recorded their first career assists.

On the afternoon, Tech tallied 34 shots with eight from Kilman, four each from sophomore Alyssa Capon, Graves and Whipkey and three from freshmen Brittany Torres, Lindsay Brumfield and Rocio Ruiz-Berdejo to round out the top shooters.

Tech will be at Bluefield College in Bluefield, Virginia on Oct. 25 with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
