MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - WVU Tech women's basketball is on a three-game win streak after beating Alice Lloyd College in the Neal D. Baisi Classic Friday evening. The Golden Bears efforts mark the second consecutive game with six players in double-digits and a 95-80 score over the Eagles.
Tech improves to 4-3 on the season while Alice Lloyd holds the same record in 2014, 4-3. In their first meeting this season (November 8), the Golden Bears fell to the Eagles, 91-89.
Freshman forward
Rocio Ruiz-Berdejo scored a double-double of 13 rebounds and 11 points for the Golden Bears. Senior guard
Nia Nolan led the way again with 15 points while dishing four assists and pulling two boards.
Freshman guard
Janee Harris put out 11 points, going 7-for-10 from the free throw line. Rounding out the top offensive contributors for the Gold and Blue were seniors, center
Roche Wimberly and guards
Cierra Mobley and
Noelani Woodson, marking 10 points each. Wimberly also recorded a game-high three blocks.
On the boards, freshman forward
Brett Justice had 10 rebounds while junior guard
Cheyanne Lusk had eight, with the same amount of points, and Wimberly had six. Lusk dished a game-high seven assists.
As a team, Tech held the edge over the Eagles in rebounds (63-54) while outshooting their opponent, 41.2 percent (28-for-68) to 30.0 percent (27-for-90).
The Golden Bears will finish out their action in the Baisi Classic on Saturday. The game vs. the University of Rio Grande is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
