Weekend Guide To Golden Bear Athletics

MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - WVU Tech athletics fans can look forward to volleyball, women's soccer and golf this weekend. Volleyball heads to the University of Pikeville for a tri-match while women's soccer will be in Rio Grande, Ohio and golf in Columbia, Kentucky. The men's soccer game orginally scheduled for Saturday at the University of Maine at Fort Kent has been cancelled.

SATURDAY - SEPTEMBER 27
Volleyball at University of Pikeville - 12:00 p.m.
The Golden Bears faced off against UPIKE (7-8) Aug. 26 in the Baisi Athletic Center, dropping the match 3-0 and are looking for redemption Saturday. Junior Jacque Carroll led Tech with seven kills and three blocks. Redshirt freshman Michala Dean tallied a team-high 18 assists against the Bears.

WVU Tech is 2-12 this season and have a team total 344 kills, 48 aces and are averaging 20.29 digs per game.

Volleyball vs. Cincinnati Christian University - 2:00 p.m.
Tech will play a 5-8 Eagles in their first meeting since at least 2007 following their match against host school, UPIKE. The team will be looking to grab another victory in 2014, win number two came last week when they defeated the University of Charleston-Beckley in three sets.

Senior Haley Pauley is producing a team-high 2.3 kills per set and has totalled 103 this season in 45 sets of play. Junior Chelsea Dean, Tech's libero, has a team-high 261 digs and is averaging 5.8 per set for the Golden Bears.

Women's Soccer at University of Rio Grande (Ohio) - 7:00 p.m.
The Golden Bears hold a record of 1-3-2 this season after a 2-2 tie against Ohio Valley University in double overtime Monday afternoon. Junior Creshana Jones netted a goal and dished an assist against the Fighting Scots. Senior Sierrah Soto marked the other goal for the team.

Tech's two other goals this season came from freshman Ruby Bingham in the win over Brescia University (Sept. 13), 2-1. The Australian native leads the team with 11 shots on goal.

The men's soccer game scheduled for Saturday against the University of Maine at Fort Kent has been cancelled.

SUNDAY - SEPTEMBER 28
Golf at Blue Raider Classic - Sept. 28-29
The golf team will head to Columbia, Kentucky this weekend to participate in the two-round Blue Raider Classic hosted by Lindsey Wilson College. The tournament will take place at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson.

Senior Gerardo Flores led the Golden Bears in their last outing by shooting a second round-low 68 to complete the Campbellsville Invitational +9 (153) and with a fourth place finish.

The team will take to the links Sunday morning and will conclude the event Monday afternoon.
