Tech Ends Season After Shootout Loss in #RSC Quarterfinals

WILMORE, Kentucky -- WVU Tech's 2016 campaign ended Saturday afternoon after falling to Asbury University in a shootout loss in Wilmore, Kentucky. Tech entered as the No. 6 seed in the River States Conference (RSC) Women's Soccer Tournament to face No. 3 seed Asbury in the quarterfinal. After double overtime, the Golden Bears and Eagles were equal at 1-1 to force a shootout for a victor.

The Eagles (10-5-3, 5-2-1 RSC) will advance to the semifinals of the RSC Tournament after a 3-1 score during the shootout. Tech finishes their season 7-7-4 overall and 2-3-3 in conference play.

Asbury struck first, netting a goal by RSC's second leading scorer, Emily Hubbuch, in the thirteenth minute. Sophomore Caitlin Foster scored the equalizer in minute 80 which forced overtime.

Tech managed five shots while the Eagles posted fours shots during overtime but both teams' defense didn't allow a goal.

Tech's goalkeeper, junior Martha Reyna (7-7-4) stopped four balls in 110 minutes of play. Reyna finished the season with 55 saves, averaging 3.06 a game.

The team ends their season with four top-40 rankings in the nation (NAIA DI) including No. 10 in shots on goal per game (11.53), No. 20 in shots per game (20.53), No. 39 in total assists (31) and No. 39 in assists per game.
