BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's basketball opened its 2017-18 campaign with a 78-68 victory over Bluefield College Wednesday evening in the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center. Junior
Savannah Shamblin had a game-high 24 points to go with a team-best six assists in the victory.
Tech also saw double-digits from junior
Alexandra Combs and sophomore
Laura Requena who poured in 17 and 15 points respectively. Requena finished with a double-double effort after pulling down 11 rebounds for the Golden Bears while Combs had seven rebounds and four assists.
As a team, Tech finished 28-for-60 (46.7 percent) from the field while the Rams went 27-for-69 (39.1 percent). The Golden Bears also held the advantage in points off turnovers (17-11), second chance points (11-10) and bench points (12-7).
Tech will return to the court Saturday, November 4 when they travel to Portsmouth, Ohio to face Shawnee State University at 6 p.m.
