BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech's 2017 campaign ended Wednesday evening after falling to University of Rio Grande, 3-0, in Beckley, West Virginia. Tech entered as the No. 1 seed in the River States Conference (RSC) Tournament to face No. 4 seed Rio Grande in the semifinal.
Tech finishes their season as the regular season RSC champions and with a record of 12-6-1 overall. The RedStorm (10-8-1) will advance to the finals of the RSC tournament to face No. 2 Asbury University (13-4-1) who defeated No. 6 Ohio Christian University (7-9-1) this evening, 4-0.
As a team, the Gold and Blue managed seven shots including three on frame. Sophomore
Miriam Cortez led Tech with two shots on goal while fellow classmate
Clarice Taylor had one.
Senior goalkeeper,
Martha Reyna (12-5-1) stopped four balls in 90 minutes of play. Reyna finished the season with 66 saves and a save percentage of .767. The Mexico, Mexico native protected the goal in 64 career games towards a record of 30-21-5 including 16 shutouts.
The team ends their season with two top-50 rankings in the nation (NAIA) including No. 26 on shots on goal per game (10.89) and No. 42 in shots per game (17.67).
