BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's basketball improved their River States Conference (RSC) record to 6-3 Saturday after a 72-65 victory over Midway University. The Golden Bears boost their overall record to 11-10 while the Eagles move to 10-10, 4-6 (RSC).
Juniors
Alexandra Combs and
Savannah Shamblin led the way for the Golden Bears with 17 points each. The two also had five assists each while Combs tallied four rebounds and three steals and Shamblin had three rebounds and a steal.
Sophomore
Laura Requena and freshman
Brittney Justice both poured in 11 points. Requena recorded a double-double with a game-high 12 rebounds to go with four of Tech's nine blocks and three assists. Justice finished a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line while grabbing three steals.
Sophomore
Logan Dudley pulled down seven rebounds and recorded five points and two blocks. Senior
Zjhane West finished with five boards and four points.
The team was 26-for-66 (39.4 percent) from the floor while Midway went 23-for-65 (35.4 percent). The Golden Bears and Eagles were equal under the boards, both teams grabbing 43 rebounds.
The Gold and Blue will return to the court Tuesday, January 23 when they travel to Alice Lloyd College.
