Dye's hat trick helps lift Tech past Brescia, 6-1

Women's Soccer

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's soccer defeated Brescia University in River States Conference play 6-1 Thursday evening in Beckley. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 5-4, 2-2 (RSC) while the Bearcats move to 2-10, 0-5 (RSC).

Freshman Brittany Dye recorded three goals towards a hat trick off the assists of sophomore Meghan Rugel (55') and freshman Jenna Miller (81').

Rugel posted two goals in the win, assisted by junior Maria Gonzalez (22' and 51'). Senior Lorena Moyers also tallied a goal in the 74th minute off the assist from Gonzalez.

As a team, Tech had 26 shots on goal while the Bearcats were held to just two shots on goal. Dye led the way for the Gold and Blue with ten shots on frame while Rugel had six on goal.

In goal, freshman Jenna Miller was awarded the win after 78 minutes of play and one save. Fellow freshman Makayla Price drew the start, allowing just one goal in 14 minutes of play.

Brescia's goal was protected by Savannah Jackson (84 minutes) who had 17 saves and allowed five goals.

The team returns to action on Saturday when they host Cincinnati Christian University at 5 p.m.
