RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- The Golden Bears of WVU Tech women's basketball posted their fourth consecutive win after defeating River States Conference (RSC) opponent No. 25 (NAIA DII) University of Rio Grande Thursday evening, 82-73. Tech now holds a record of 11-8, 6-1 (RSC) while the RedStorm move to 13-5, 4-2 (RSC).
Both sophomore
Whittney Justice (23 points) and freshman
ShanEttine Butler (18 points) posted career-highs to help lead the Gold and Blue.
Sophomore
Brittney Justice finished with 19 points including a perfect 6-for-6 effort from the foul line. B. Justice also had eight rebounds.
Under the boards, juniors
Logan Dudley and
Laura Requena led the way, pulling down nine rebounds each.
Senior
Savannah Shamblin led the team with four assists while pouring in seven points.
Tech is currently No. 1 in the RSC East Division at 6-1 while Rio Grande stands at No. 3, 1.5 games back, with a conference record of 4-2. Indiana University East (5-1, RSC), who the Golden Bears defeated 76-64 December 2 and will face again February 2 on the road, are No. 2 in the East (RSC).
Up next, WVU Tech will host Alice Lloyd College on Tuesday, January 15 for a GOLD RUSH in the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. Fans are encouraged to wear GOLD in support of the Golden Bears.
