BECKLEY, West Virginia -- The WVU Tech women's basketball squad posted an 83-77 River States Conference (RSC) victory over Brescia University Saturday afternoon in the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. The Golden Bears boost their record to 9-8, 5-1 (RSC) while the Bearcats move to 4-12, 2-4 (RSC).
As of January 5, Tech holds the top spot in the RSC East Division, followed a half game back by No. 20 University of Rio Grande (4-1) and Indiana University East (4-1).
The Gold and Blue were led by senior
Savannah Shamblin who poured in 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Shamblin also dished nine assists to go with three rebounds and two steals.
Fellow senior
Alexandra Combs finished with 17 points on a 4-for-6 effort from three-point range. Combs also recorded six assists, five rebounds, a block and a steal.
Sophomore
Brittney Justice was 6-for-9 from the field towards 16 points while junior
Logan Dudley had 11 points for Tech. B. Justice also had a game-best nine rebounds.
As a team, Tech finished 32-for-56 (57.1 percent) from the field while the Bearcats went 32-for-60 (53.3 percent). The Gold and Blue held the advantage in rebounds, 32-23.
The Golden Bears will continue play January 8 when they travel to Bluefield State for non-conference action.
