Golden Bears earn first W of season at Bluefield

Women's Basketball

BLUEFIELD, Virginia -- WVU Tech women's basketball defeated Bluefield College 78-45 for its first victory this season. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 1-2 while the Rams start their campaign at 0-1.

Junior Brittney Justice led all with a double-double effort of 16 points and ten rebounds including a 4-for-5 effort from three-point range.

Senior Carlie Biehl-Wilson and junior ShanEttine Butler came off the bench to post 13 points and three boards each.

Senior Laura Requena finished with 11 points and two rebounds while junior Alexandria Gray poured in ten points and grabbed three boards.

As a team, Tech finished 58.7 percent (27-for-46) from the field while holding Bluefield to just 32.7 percent (17-for-52) shooting.

The Golden Bears were also solid from three-point range (73.3 percent) and the foul line (81.3 percent).

Tech will stay on the road, traveling to Glenville State for a scrimmage before taking on Carlow University November 5 in River States Conference play.
