BECKLEY, West Virginia -- (RV) WVU Tech women's basketball pulled ahead of Point Park University in a defensive-driven game to earn a 71-62 River States Conference (RSC) victory Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears are still undefeated in conference play, 4-0, and hold an overall record of 9-6. The Pioneers move to 6-6, 0-2 (RSC).
Tech had five Golden Bears hit double-digits including a team-high 14 points from Junior
Kathylee Pinnock Branford who finished 6-for-8 from the free throw line. Branford also posted the game's-best seven assists and five steals to go with three rebounds and a block.
Junior
Alexandria Gray had 13 points while fellow classmates
Whittney Justice and
Brittney Justice poured in 12 points each. Junior
Logan Dudley came off the bench to mark ten points, rounding out Tech's top offensive contributors.
Under the boards, senior
Laura Requena pulled down nine boards while Dudley finished with eight rebounds.
Tech's defense held the Pioneers to 36.7 percent shooting from the field and just 33.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Point Park held the Golden Bears to 38.2 percent shooting from the field and 38.9 percent from three-point range.
The Pioneers won the rebound battle 45-36 while the Gold and Blue held the advantage in points off turnovers (14-9) and points in the paint (30-24).
WVU Tech will hit the road next for a non-conference game at Bluefield State College Friday, December 20.
