(RV) WVU Tech undefeated for last 12 games

Women's Basketball

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania -- (RV) WVU Tech women's basketball continues to make history as they push their winning streak to a dozen right after receiving votes, for the first time since 2007, in the NAIA DII Coaches' Top 25 Poll Tuesday. In River States Conference (RSC) action, the Golden Bears (19-8, 14-1 RSC) defeated Carlow University (8-19, 3-11 RSC) 69-65.

The Gold and Blue are still No. 1 in the RSC East division, with the next team, Indiana University East (9-5 RSC), at 4.5 games back. Indiana University Kokomo (10-4 RSC) is on top in the RSC West division with Alice Lloyd (10-5 RSC) 0.5 games back.

Tech had three players hit double-digits including a game-high 19 points from senior Savannah Shamblin. Shamblin also dished a game-best four assists to go with three rebounds and two steals.

The Cross Lanes, West Virginia native is currently ranked No. 4 in the nation (NAIA DII) with 142 total assists and No. 8 in assists per game with 5.462. She is also No. 19 in assist/turnover ratio at 2.448 and No. 36 in three-point field goal percentage at 0.386.

Sophomore Brittney Justice hit four from beyond the arc towards 18 points while grabbing six rebounds. B. Justice, who hails from Danese, West Virginia is No. 39 in NAIA DII play with 199 total rebounds.

Senior Laura Requena posted another double-double, pushing that streak to eight with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Requena also had two steals, two blocks and an assist.

A native of Madrid, Spain, Requena holds three rankings in the nation including No. 28 with 213 total rebounds, No. 31 in with 3.200 offensive rebounds per game and No. 33 with 8.520 rebounds per game.

Senior Alexandra Combs was a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line and had nine points to go with three assists and a block.

Up next, Tech will host Point Park University (12-13, 8-6 RSC) in more conference action Saturday, February 9 at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
