SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- WVU Tech women's basketball ended its 2018-19 campaign with a record of 24-10 after falling to Indiana Tech, 73-63, in a first round of the NAIA DII National Championship. The Golden Bears were crowned the River States Conference regular season and tournament champions this year.
Tech held a 54-53 lead after the third quarter before the Warriors staged the comeback in the fourth, outscoring the Golden Bears, 20-9, for the eventual victory.
Senior
Alexandra Combs finished with a team-best 13 points to go with five rebounds.
Sophomores
Brittney Justice and
Whittney Justice poured in 12 points each. B. Justice also had five rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist while W. Justice marked two rebounds and two assists.
Junior
Laura Requena hit double-digits, scoring ten points for the Gold and Blue. Requena pulled down seven rebounds to go with a steal and an assist.
Fellow junior
Carlie Biehl-Wilson recorded six rebounds and four points.
Senior
Savannah Shamblin completed the game with three points, an assist and a rebound.
Indiana Tech was led by Kendall Knapke who had 25 points and nine rebounds.
The Golden Bears entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed in the Naismith Bracket while Indiana Tech is seeded No. 2. The Warriors will play again Friday for a second round game in the championship.
