BECKLEY, West Virginia -- (RV) WVU Tech women's basketball pushed its winning streak to eight after defeating River States Conference (RSC) opponent University of Rio Grande 102-89 in Beckley Thursday evening. The Golden Bears are a perfect 7-0 in conference play and 14-6 overall while the RedStorm move to 12-8, 5-2 (RSC).
Tech saw five Golden Bears hit double-digits including a team-high 23 points from junior
Kathylee Pinnock Branford. Branford, who finished 10-for-10 from the bonus line, also had eight rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a block.
Fellow junior
Brittney Justice poured in 20 points to go with three boards, three assists and a steal. Junior
Whittney Justice finished with 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and a block.
Junior
Alexandria Gray posted 15 points, five steals, five rebounds and three assists. Freshman
Brianna Ball rounded out the top offensive contributors with 12 points while grabbing nine boards a steal and marking an assist.
As a team, Tech dominated under the boards, posting 46 rebounds compared to Rio's 28. The Gold and Blue also forced 19 turnovers while grabbing 11 steals.
WVU Tech will continue conference play when they travel to Alice Lloyd College Tuesday, January 21.
