Golden Bears compete at NAIA Challenge Duals

COLUMBIA, Kentucky -- WVU Tech wrestling competed at the NAIA Challenge Duals in Columbia Saturday, facing Midway University (4-51), Truett McConnell University (16-40), Thomas More University (15-39), Texas Wesleyan University (12-45) and Marian University (0-57).

Steven Slack II (133 lbs.) led the Gold and Blue Saturday, finishing 3-2 overall. Slack, who hails from Belle, West Virginia, earned a Major Decision (10-2) over Andrew Vogeler of Midway and an 8-4 Decision against Thomas More's Grant Stapleton.

Jeffrey Bowles competed at 285 lbs., defeating Chase Emmert (Thomas More) pinning him at 2:13. Bowles, who hails from Lester, West Virginia, also scored a Fall (4:07) over Nolan Cook (Truett McConnell).

Judson McCray (141 lbs.) picked up six points for the Gold and Blue against Texas Wesleyan with a Fall (1:17) against Jeremy McPherson. The Bristol, Tennessee native also recorded a 20-8 Major Decision over Truett McConnell's Matthew Johnson.

At 174 lbs., Ryan Turney grappled to a Fall over Thomas More's Jacob Weigel at 3:29. 

The Golden Bears will return to the mat in 2022 when they travel for the Waynesburg Invitational in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
