WVU Tech wrestling ended its 2020-2021 campaign after finishing sixth during the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championship Friday. The event, hosted at Bluefield College, was won by No. 4 (NAIA) Reinhardt University.
The Golden Bears finished with 37.5 team points including two fourth place finishes.
Junior Steven Slack earned fourth place at 133 lbs. after a 2-2 showing Friday. He grappled to a fall over St. Andrew's Andrew Adams (0:40). The Belle, West Virginia native earned his second W by forfeit.
Sophomore Jacob Thomas, 184 lbs., also finished fourth for the Gold and Blue. Thomas, who hails from Alderson, West Virginia, received a bye before earning a 7-5 decision over Bluefield's Francisco Vasquez.
Jephte Jean Paul, from Irvington, New Jersey, also picked up team points for Tech, wrestling to a sixth place showing at 165 lbs. The senior earned a fall (1:31) over St. Andrew's Vic Kum before falling to Bluefield's Zac Silver in the fifth place match-up.
Freshman Logan Allen, who hails from Belington, West Virginia ended sixth at 174 lbs. during the championship. Allen fell just short by decision, 6-4, versus Jermy Cope of St. Andrews and picked up a medical forfeit win over Bluefield's Luke Young.
