BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's soccer fell to Oakland City University 2-1 in River States Conference (RSC) action Thursday evening. The Golden Bears are now 0-11-1, 0-3 (RSC) while the Mighty Oaks move to 7-1-1, 4-0 (RSC).
Oakland struck first with goals from Claudia Melgar (53') and Kennedy Hospelhorn (61').
Tech's goal came from freshman
Stheisy Lemus who put the ball past the Mighty Oaks' keeper Kassidy Elkin off a penalty kick with 21 minutes left to play.
The Golden Bears net was guarded by freshman
Sandra Garcia who had 15 saves in 90 minutes of play. With a total of 83 stops this season, Garcia is currently ranked No. 10 in the nation (NAIA).
WVU Tech will host again this Saturday when Indiana University Kokomo travels to Beckley for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
