SALEM, Virginia -- WVU Tech wrestling finished fifth out of ten teams and had two Golden Bears place during the Star City Classic presented by USMC Sunday.
Senior
Isaiha Casto recorded the top finish in his weight class at 184 lbs, finishing 4-0 on the day. Casto defeated Paul Martello (Thomas More) by Fall (0:55) followed by a Technical Fall (19-4) over Jack McCusker (Washington & Lee). The semifinal saw another Fall (1:36) by the senior, this time against Trent Walker (Mount Olive). In the Championship bout, Casto took down Eric Washington (Marymount) with a 16-10 decision.
Also at 184 lbs., freshman
Maxwell Underwood placed third overall after having a 2-1 showing. Underwood first defeated Jeffrey Tubbs (Huntingdon) 3-0 to move into the third place match where the decision came at 7-5 over Trent Walker (Mount Olive) in a redemption match-up. The freshman's only loss came from Walker in his first bout, dropping a 7-1 decision.
Freshman
Cameron Griffin grappled at 157 lbs. picking up a win over Tyler Vinson (Mount Olive) by Sudden Victory (SV-1, 10-8).
Sophomore
Nicholas Da Silva and freshman
Shannon Fray began their tournament against each other at 165 lbs. where DaSilva posted a 14-12 decision for the W. DaSilva also recorded a Fall (4:33) versus Hezzy Ntube (Marymount).
The Gold and Blue will return to action Saturday, December 3 when they travel to Midway University for a dual.
