BECKLEY, West Virginia -- The Golden Bears fell just short to Carolina University 4-3 in WVU Tech's home opener Wednesday. Tech moves to 0-3 in 2022 while the Bruins hold a record of 1-1.
The Gold and Blue recorded all three of their goals in the first half including two from
Ana Gay Mesa. Gay Mesa posted the first one quick, in minute four, off an assist from
Jodie Pallant. The sophomore also soared the ball past Carolina keeper Alondra Ramon unassisted with ten minutes left in the first 45.
Tech's final goal came from the solo effort of senior
Alexis Wells in minute 43, giving her team the 3-1 lead headed into halftime.Â
The Bruins' goals were posted by Aaliyah Rubio (11'), Hayden Pacheco (46') and Natasha Mariam (55', 63').
WVU Tech's net protector, freshman
Sandra Garcia, made six stops in 90 minutes of play while Ramon finished with three saves in the complete game for Carolina.
Up next, the Golden Bears will hit the road to Winon Lake, Indiana to face Grace College Saturday, September 3.
