BECKLEY, West Virginia -- The Golden Bear esports squad of THETREVDOG00 (Trevor James Morrison), SpookyWarrior90 (Ethan Mcle) and FARGO (Waleed Alghamdi) earned a 3-1 (best out of five) victory over Marietta College during the first round of the 2022 Fall NACE StarLeague Varsity Plus Rocket League tournament. WVU Tech won with scores of 4-3, 2-6, 7-2 and 4-1.

Rocket League is a video game described as "soccer, but with rocket-powered cars." This particular tourney has three players assigned to each of the two teams where competitors use rocket-powered vehicles to hit a ball into their opponent's goal and score points over the course of a match. Each match lasts five minutes and is best out of five.

A freshman, Alghamdi, led the team with a total of 11 goals including a hat trick of hat tricks. FARGO put away three goals in game one, game three and game four while adding one in game two.

Fellow freshman, Mcle, also posted a hat trick (game three) for the Gold and Blue, totaling five goals Monday.

Finishing with multiple saves on defense, the senior, Morrison, also posted a goal in game one for Tech.

The same set of Golden Bears will compete again next week (Monday) in the second round against Simpson College.
