Golden Bears come out on top in OT

Women's Basketball

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's basketball battled to a 71-66 overtime win against Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in River States Conference (RSC) action Thursday evening. The Golden Bears boost their record to 12-8, 5-4 (RSC) while the Polmeroy's move to 11-6, 3-6 (RSC).

Freshman Alva Hedrich led all scorers and rebounders with a double-double of 18 points and 15 boards to go with two assists and a block. Hedrich finished almost perfect at the foul line, 8-for-9.

Junior Faith N. Silva drained three three's towards 15 points while recording an assist and a steal.

Fellow junior Valiyah Yazzie came off the bench to produce ten points, four rebounds, four assists and a steal.

Janaya Berry, a freshman, had eight points and five rebounds while classmate Rylee Allie poured in seven points to go with three assists, two boards and a steal. Allie was perfect from the field, 3-for-3, and nailed the game-tying shot that led the teams to overtime.

As a team, Tech finished a very efficient 81.0 percent (17-for-21) from the bonus line while finishing 38.7 percent (24-for-62) from the field. 

The Golden Bears will return to action at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center this Saturday, January 21 when they host Indiana University Kokomo for conference action.
