Golden Bears move past Brescia

Women's Basketball

OWENSBORO, Kentucky -- WVU Tech women's basketball earned a 72-59 River States Conference (RSC) victory at Brescia University Tuesday evening. The Golden Bears now boast a record of 11-6, 4-2 (RSC) while the Bearcats move to 1-14, 0-6 (RSC).

Freshman Alva Hedrich led all with a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds including an 11-for-12 effort from the foul line. Hedrich, who is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation (NAIA) with 79 of 101 made free throws, recorded three assists and a steal.

Junior Faith N. Silva was perfect (7-for-7) at the bonus stripe and made three three's towards 22 points to go with four rebounds and two assists. Silva is currently No.1 in the country (NAIA) with a 73-for-158 effort from beyond the arc and No. 3 with 318 total points.

Alyssa Taylor, a senior, also hit double-digits for the Gold and Blue, posting 12 points, five rebounds and two assists.

The team shot 40.0 percent (22-for-55) from the field while the Bearcats were held to a 31.3 percent (20-for-64) effort. Tech also held the edge under the boards, 43-37.

The Golden Bears will next host Oakland City University at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center this Saturday, January 7.
