WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- WVU Tech women's basketball earned its second consecutive victory after defeating Simmons College of Kentucky 60-50 to begin the Cumberlands Classic Thursday. The Golden Bears and the Falcons now hold a record of 2-1 each.
Sophomore
Alva Hedrich (Muecke, Hessen, Germany) helped lead the Gold and Blue with a double-double effort of 16 points and 14 rebounds. Hedrich recorded five blocks and four assists.
Tech also saw a double-double from junior
Leonor Ferreira (Matosinhos, Portugal) of 16 points and 13 boards.
Sophomore
Alexis Sexton (Lexington, S.C.) poured in ten points to go with eight rebounds and five assists while fellow classmate
Nell Marx (Stockholm, Sweden) finished with nine points.
The Golden Bears held the edge under the boards with 44 rebounds comparted to the Falcons' 27. Tech finished 43.4 percent (23-for-53) from the floor while Simmons shot 31.3 percent (21-for-67).
WVU Tech will finish play in the Cumberlands Classic tomorrow, Friday at 1 p.m. when they face Milligan University.
