Women's soccer set to host Carrie Beth Bowling Memorial Game

BECKLEY, W.Va. â€“ WVU Tech will honor the late women's soccer player Carrie Beth Bowling (May 28, 1986 - October 3, 2004) with a memorial game Saturday, October 26 to remember the Golden Bear 20 years after she tragically lost her life in a car accident. The game will take place at 1 p.m. when they host River States Conference (RSC) opponent Brescia University. The Bowling family and friends will be in attendance and recognized at the half in Paul Cline Stadium.

Carrie attended and played soccer on a scholarship at WVU Tech as a freshman in 2004. The Golden Bear program retired her jersey, No. 16, before the 2005 season in honor of Bowling's memory. She was a 2004 honor graduate of Oak Hill High School where she played soccer and tennis and was the manager of the girls basketball team. Carrie earned first team All-State honors in soccer her senior season as a Red Devil. She was inducted posthumously into the Collins/Oak Hill High School Red Devil Hall of Fame in 2019.

Carrie was the kind of person we wish everyone had a chance to know and to call a friend. She loved many people and was loved by many people, regardless of age.

As a friend she was the first to defend you and the first to let you know you were wrong and suggest how to rectify the situation. She may have been small in stature but her spirit was mighty.

Her first college coach (Reggie Smith) called her a 'ray of sunshine.' That pretty much sums it up.
Mary Jane Reed Bowling (Carrie's Mother)
