Beckley, W.Va. - The WVU Tech Super Smash Brothers team earned a 2-0 (12-5, 12-4) victory over Randolph-Macon College Monday night, fueled by a breakout performance by the team's newest player in only his second career college esports match.
   Freshman MarkieBlue (
Mark Imbing, Fr.) led the way for the Golden Bears, taking 10 total stocks through two games (best of three series), playing with the character Peach. He claimed his first five stocks in game one playing from the lead-off spot (four-man crew battle format), going 3-1 against the Yellow Jackets' lead, a King K. Rool, then 2-2 against a Kirby. In game two he again played as the lead and grabbed five more from Randolph-Macon, going 3-2 against the Kirby and 2-1 against a Bowser.Â
   Teammate AvailingStorm (
Thomas Vecellio, Sr.), playing with Falco, took seven stocks for the team's 2nd highest total on the night, all in game one. Golden Bears captain Frickroll (
Trenton Smith, Sr.) took four total stocks on the night, while ScytheC (
Clayton Wilson, Sr.) had three.
   The win moves WVU Tech's record to 1-1 in the East Coast Athletic Conference's (ECAC) Group 1, Division B. Their next match will be Tuesday, October 7 at 8:00 p.m. against the United States Coast Guard Academy. The action will be streamed live on Twitch (WVUTechGoldenBears).
