BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech Rocket League pushed the University of the Cumberlands to the limit in a back-and-forth NECC Division IV Mideast B matchup Wednesday night, ultimately falling 4–3 in a seven-game battle inside the Golden Bear Esports Lab.
The Golden Bears — featuring Jayden Rouse (Jaro), Waleed Alghamdi (FARGO), and Brayden Hanshew (Mune) — built a 3–1 series lead behind sharp rotations and confident attacking play before the Patriots rallied to take the final three games and the match.
With the result, WVU Tech moves to 0–3 in NECC Division IV Mideast B and 2–3 overall on the season. Earlier NECC contests came against Dayton and Saginaw Valley State.

Rocket League is a 3v3 title combining soccer-style gameplay with rocket-powered vehicles. Collegiate series are played in best-of-seven format, with teams earning points through goals, assists, saves and shots on goal.

Since debuting in 2020–21, WVU Tech Rocket League has grown into a consistent national contender. Under head coach Brad Davis, the Golden Bears captured the 2024–25 NECC Fall Championship and made their first national tournament appearance in Spring 2025.
