Golden Bears drop hard-fought R6 series

BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech Rainbow Six Siege pushed its NECC East A Division IV series to a decisive third map Wednesday night, ultimately falling 2–1 to the University of New Haven inside the Golden Bear Esports Lab.

The Golden Bears — featuring Noah Tucker (bizzy.biyombo), Andrew Gwinn (amgscythe), Patrick Hilbert (Hilbert225), Ty Bock (BockShiesty), Shannon Fray (FrodyG), and Aiden Mills (Solarfrogs) — opened strong with a confident Game One win on Skyscraper. New Haven countered on Kafe Dostoyevsky to tie the series before closing it out on Club House in Game Three.

Rainbow Six Siege 101

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is a tactical first-person shooter by Ubisoft where teams alternate between attacking and defending bomb sites. Attackers use drones and breaching tools to locate and secure objectives, while defenders fortify sites with gadgets and traps. Each NECC map consists of 12 rounds, switching sides after six; the first to seven wins. Matches are best-of-three.


Program History

Rainbow Six Siege joined the WVU Tech esports lineup in Fall 2023. The Golden Bears quickly made their mark, capturing the NECC Navigators Division National Championship in Spring 2024. Now in their third season, Tech continues to compete in the NECC East A Division IV.
