BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech women's soccer saw its seven-match unbeaten streak come to an end Thursday night, falling 1–0 to the University of Rio Grande in River States Conference action at Paul Cline Stadium.
Rio's Sara Estrada Fernand netted the match's lone goal in the 16th minute, finishing off an early spell of pressure that proved decisive.
Tech battled back throughout, creating multiple set-piece chances in the second half. Nora Martin-Mora Segura nearly equalized in the 50th minute, ringing a shot off the crossbar, while Sophie Quinlan forced a save in the 75th. The Golden Bears finished with a 6–4 advantage in corner kicks but couldn't find the back of the net.
Sandra Garcia Quílez made one save in the loss for WVU Tech, which held Rio to just three shots on goal overall.
