WVU Tech fights hard in NECC Rocket League debut

BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech Rocket League opened official NECC Division IV Mideast B play Monday night inside the Golden Bear Esports Lab, falling in a competitive 4–1 series to the University of Dayton Flyers.

The Golden Bears — featuring Jayden Rouse (Jaro); Waleed Alghamdi (FARGO); and Brayden Hanshew (Mune) — showed strong chemistry and determination throughout their NECC debut under head coach Brad Davis.

Rocket League 101

Rocket League is a high-tempo 3v3 esports title where teams use rocket-powered cars to score goals in five-minute games. Collegiate series are best-of-seven, tracking goals, assists, saves, and shots each round.


Program History – Rocket League

WVU Tech Rocket League launched in 2020-21 under coach Korey Tedder, becoming one of the university's first varsity esports programs. Under current head coach Brad Davis, the Golden Bears captured the 2024-25 NECC Fall Championship and made their first national tournament appearance in Spring 2025.
