Golden Bears edge Carlow in five-game Marvel Rivals thriller

BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech esports earned a gritty 3–2 series win over Carlow University on Tuesday night inside the Golden Bear Esports Lab, bouncing back from early setbacks with three clutch victories to close out the Marvel Rivals NECC East A Division VI matchup.

The Golden Bears saw Silas Eads (R3D Mystix), Tyler Vines (Typoint-5) and Dakota P. Dietz (NinjaRemover) earn standout honors across five games, while Ty Bock (BockShiesty) and Wyatt Plumley (Plum_) powered through big elimination totals in the deciding rounds.


Game One — Birnin T'Challa (Domination) | Carlow 2, WVU Tech 1

Carlow edged Tech to open the night. Plum_ (Invisible Woman) picked up SVP honors after a well-rounded support performance that featured 24 kills, 26 assists, and more than 24,000 healing. Dietz (Ultron) led Tech's eliminations with 25, while Eads (Doctor Strange), Jordan Green (JrdnN3xtDoor) (Spider-Man), Vines (Venom), and Bock (Magneto) contributed balanced damage and utility.


Game Two — Hall of Djalia (Convergence) | WVU Tech 2, Carlow 0

Tech answered quickly with a clean sweep. Eads (Doctor Strange) earned MVP honors after an 18-kill showing and strong control presence. Dietz (Scarlet Witch), Plum_ (Invisible Woman), Bock (Emma Frost), Vines (Punisher), and Green (Loki) all broke double digits in kills, helping WVU Tech even the series at 1–1.


Game Three — Midtown (Convoy) | Carlow 3, WVU Tech 1

Carlow reclaimed the lead behind a high-damage push, but Plum_ (Cloak & Dagger) once again anchored Tech's support core, logging 19 kills, 17 assists, and over 12,000 healing. Vines (Moon Knight) led with 25 eliminations, while Bock (Ultron), Dietz (Luke Cage), Eads (Groot), and Green (Loki) rounded out the lineup.


Game Four — Birnin T'Challa (Domination) | WVU Tech 2, Carlow 0

The Golden Bears responded with another sweep. Vines (Venom) was named MVP after putting up 14 kills, 18 assists, and more than 13,000 healing received. Green (Ultron) added 11 kills and a team-high 25 assists, while Plum_ (Cloak & Dagger), Bock (Emma Frost), Dietz (Scarlet Witch), and Eads (Doctor Strange) kept the pressure steady.


Game Five — Central Park (Convergence) | WVU Tech 4, Carlow 3

WVU Tech closed out the night in a nail-biter. BockShiesty (Emma Frost) earned MVP honors with a 44-kill, 6-assist performance, backed by strong frontline presence from Eads (Groot) and Dietz (Invisible Woman). Plum_ (Scarlet Witch), Green (Ultron) and Vines (Rocket Raccoon) helped seal the 4–3 victory and the series win.
