WVU Tech wrestles three NAIA ranked teams in Georgia

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — WVU Tech wrestling stepped into one of its toughest lineups of the early season Saturday, squaring off against three nationally recognized NAIA programs at the Baron Duals hosted by Brewton-Parker Christian College. The Golden Bears picked up several individual victories across the day while facing a field that featured (RV) Brewton-Parker, (RV) St. Thomas (FL) and No. 9 Cumberland (Tenn.).

Freshman Adams S. Turpin-Abdulrazaaq Jr. delivered one of Tech's strongest performances, earning two first-period falls — a 36-second pin against Brewton-Parker and a 46-second fall against No. 9 Cumberland. Freshman Jeremiah Chinyere-Okiyi II added a hard-earned decision at 133 pounds against St. Thomas, and freshman Landon Morris picked up a major decision against Brewton-Parker. Freshman William Vila added a first-period fall at 157 against St. Thomas.

The Golden Bears faced multiple nationally ranked opponents throughout the day. St. Thomas featured No. 14 Connor Hueck (125), while Brewton-Parker sent out No. 10 Zahquel Davis (184). Cumberland, currently No. 9 in the NAIA, brought one of the deepest ranked lineups in the country, including multiple Top-20 individuals across the lower and upper weights.

Despite a challenging slate, WVU Tech's young roster continued gaining valuable experience as the first-year and second-year wrestlers set the foundation for the upcoming AAC slate.
