Golden Bears open NECC Horizon play with pair of wins

BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech Overwatch 2 launched its NECC Horizon Lunar Colony season Friday with three best-of-three series, finishing the day with a 2-1 record after earning a pair of wins over Navy and dropping a close match to Wilkes University.

Tech sweeps Navy in opener
Tech opened the day with a 2-0 sweep of Navy, winning on Esperança (1-0) and Samoa (2-0). The lineup featured Parker Jarrell (Quiet Otter, support), Keith Karwacki (TheWacki1, tank), Trenton Windsor (Warpwo, damage), Logan Oliver (Goomba678, damage) and Brahm Kestesron (Brahm, support). Jacob Ferguson (Mezzlo, damage) subbed in for Oliver in the second map.

Wilkes tops Tech in three maps
In match two, the Golden Bears battled Wilkes across three tightly contested maps before falling 2-1. Tech dropped the opener on Samoa (0-2), responded with a win on Esperança (1-0) and came up just short in the decider on Suravasa (2-3). The lineup of Jarrell, Karwacki, Windsor, Ferguson and Kestesron played throughout the series.

Golden Bears take Navy rematch 2-1
Tech closed the day by taking a 2-1 victory in a Navy rematch, highlighted by key lineup adjustments.

  • Map 1 – Samoa (2-0): Jarrell, Karwacki, Windsor, Oliver, Hines.
  • Map 2 – New Queen Street (0-1): Jarrell, Karwacki, Windsor, Ferguson, Kestesron (with Ferguson in for Oliver and Kestesron for Hines).
  • Map 3 – Suravasa (3-0): Tech kept the same lineup from map two and rolled to a dominant closeout.

Day record
With the results, WVU Tech opened NECC Horizon Lunar Colony play with a 2-1 overall record.
