BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech esports launched its ECAC Fortnite Zero Builds season Tuesday night, highlighted by a Victory Royale in Game Three from the duo of junior Ryan Hayden (Dr.unrushed) of Slippery Rock, Pa., and junior Keith Karwacki (TheWacki1) of Ripley, W.Va.
The Golden Bears competed in three matches during the season opener.
- Game One: Tech placed eighth, with Dr.unrushed and TheWacki1 tallying two eliminations each for 44 points.
- Game Two: The Bears finished 15th, scoring 22 points.
- Game Three: Dr.unrushed recorded two eliminations and TheWacki1 added four as WVU Tech secured a first-place finish, earning 77 points.
The squad finished the evening with 143 points overall.

Game at a Glance: Fortnite Zero Builds
Fortnite's Zero Build mode removes the game's signature building mechanics, putting the focus on aim, movement and positioning. Duos drop into a shrinking battlefield, scavenging weapons and items while fighting to outlast opponents. Teams earn points through placements and eliminations, with a Victory Royale as the ultimate goal.
