WVU Tech wins RSC Fall Preview, Bjarnason tops field

DANIELS, W.Va. — WVU Tech golf captured its second straight team championship Tuesday, winning the River States Conference Fall Preview at The Resort at Glade Springs with a two-day total of 584 (+8). The Golden Bears held off Midway by seven strokes in a competitive 11-team field.

Freshman Heidar Bjarnason of Selfoss, Iceland, led the charge by earning medalist honors with a 140 (69-71, –4), recording nine birdies across his two rounds. He was joined in the top 10 by sophomore Roberto Peiró Llobell of Gandia, Spain, who finished sixth at 146 (74-72, +2). Sophomore Alvaro Iglesias Pascual of Castellon, Spain, rebounded with a 69 in round two to tie for ninth at 149 (+5). Sophomore Sean Cooper of Jumping Branch, West Virginia, tied for 14th with a 151 (73-78, +7), while sophomore Mathias Maldonado of Bolivia tied for 35th with a 158 (82-76, +14).

Freshman Juan Setuain Irujo of Pamplona, Spain, competed as an individual and tied for 41st with a 161 (81-80, +17). He added steady contributions while gaining key experience against conference competition.
