Golden Bears celebrate Senior Day with 3-0 win

Women's Soccer

BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech women's soccer celebrated Senior Day with another complete performance, scoring twice in the opening 11 minutes and shutting out Indiana University Kokomo, 3-0, at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Sports Complex.

The Golden Bears improved to 9-5-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play while extending their winning streak to five matches.

Tech wasted little time taking control. Freshman Shiloh Goodwin opened the scoring at 3:16, finishing an assist from junior Julia Silva to give the Golden Bears an early 1-0 advantage.

Silva doubled the lead just over seven minutes later. Her goal at 10:47 made it 2-0 as WVU Tech continued to dictate play throughout the opening half.

The Golden Bears held a 10-1 advantage in shots over the first 45 minutes and carried the two-goal lead into halftime. IU Kokomo's lone attempt of the half was saved by freshman Irene Saldana.

During halftime, WVU Tech recognized its seven seniors as part of the Senior Day celebration. Sascha Pacheco, Carson Barr, Hannah White, Sofia Filgueira, Mallie Lawson, Korinne Potter and Andrea Moreno were honored alongside family and friends in recognition of their contributions to the program.

Silva struck again early in the second half, scoring at 51:16 for her second goal of the match and team-leading 11th of the season. She finished the day with two goals and an assist for five points while taking nine shots and putting five on goal.

WVU Tech continued to create chances after building the 3-0 lead. The Golden Bears finished with 25 shots, including 17 on goal, while limiting IU Kokomo to three shots, all on frame. Tech also held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Saldana played the opening 62:03 in goal and made one save to earn the shutout before Pacheco entered for her first appearance of the season. Pacheco stopped both shots she faced over the final 27:57 to preserve WVU Tech's 3-0 victory.

Goodwin finished with a goal on four shots, putting three on frame. Silva accounted for the other two goals and the match's lone assist.

The victory continued a strong conference run for the Golden Bears, who are now 5-1 in league play and have won five consecutive matches.
