BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech esports dropped a 2–0 decision to The City College of New York on Monday night in ECAC Super Smash Bros. Ultimate action during Week 2 of the spring season.
The Golden Bears opened the match in Game One with Ralph Aaron Etaba Ateba (Wreck) leading off on Ken, collecting four stocks to give WVU Tech an early push. Evan Ingram (Dunks) followed on Wario with one stock, while Tyler Vines (Typoint5) added two on R.O.B. and Mark Imbing (Markieblue) chipped in one on Wii Fit Trainer. Despite the balanced effort, CCNY answered back with strong Donkey Kong play to take the opener, 12–8.
Game Two saw WVU Tech adjust its lineup, starting with Wreck on Terry before Rylan Ellison (RyeBread) entered on Joker with two stocks. Dunks added two more on Falco, and Typoint5 closed the lineup on R.O.B. with two stocks of his own. CCNY countered with consistent pressure across multiple characters, including Luigi and Lucina, and closed out the sweep with a 12–8 win in the second game.
