KINGSPORT, Tenn. — WVU Tech swimming continued competition at the 2026 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Swimming Championships on Friday at the Kingsport Aquatic Center, recording two relay podium finishes and multiple individual scoring performances as the Golden Bear men remain third overall through two days.
After a strong opening day Thursday that featured four third-place finishes and 138 men's points, WVU Tech returned Friday looking to build on that momentum. Through Event 28, the Golden Bear men have totaled 298 points, sitting third behind Milligan (700) and UT Southern (350). The Golden Bear women have accumulated 70 points and sit sixth overall.
Relay Podiums
WVU Tech secured two third-place relay finishes Friday evening.
The Golden Bears opened the finals session with a bronze in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as Jose Fernando Perez (21.87), Bryson George (22.49), Mauro Sanchez Lopez (21.11) and Carmine Bernardo (21.63) combined for a 1:27.10 and 32 team points.
Later in the session, WVU Tech added another podium finish in the 400-yard medley relay. Oleguer Siscart Muntané, Perez, Sanchez Lopez and Bernardo clocked a 3:37.20 to place third and score another 32 points. Siscart Muntané led off in 57.99, Perez posted a 58.90 breaststroke split, Sanchez Lopez swam 51.68 on butterfly and Bernardo anchored in 48.63.
Individual Scoring Performances – Men
In the 400-yard IM, freshman Lorenzo Silva placed fourth in 4:48.23 to earn valuable team points.
In the 200-yard freestyle, WVU Tech scored five swimmers:
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Perez led the Golden Bears with a sixth-place finish in 58.96. George added points with an eighth-place finish in 1:02.17.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Mason Adams placed seventh in 1:04.52, while Alvaro Iglesias finished ninth overall in 1:14.60 to score.
Women's Performances
On the women's side, Neda Vaicaite, Haley Jo Hunt, Giulia Colombo and Nora Martin-Mora Segura placed sixth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:00.45 to score team points.
Vaicaite also scored individually in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing sixth in 1:01.37.
Martin-Mora added points in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing 11th overall in 1:24.15.
Through two days of competition, WVU Tech's men remain in third place with 298 points, while the women hold sixth with 70 points.
The AAC Championships conclude Saturday in Kingsport with morning prelims and an evening finals session.
