Golden Bears push Mount Union to Game 7

BECKLEY, W.Va. — WVU Tech Rocket League Gold continued NECC play with a pair of home matches inside the Golden Bear Esports Lab, highlighted by a seven game battle against the University of Mount Union that came down to the final arena.

The Golden Bears opened the stretch on Feb. 4 against Wright State University, then returned to action Feb. 18 and pushed Mount Union to a decisive Game 7.

Match 1: Wright State University (Feb. 4)

Result: L, 0–4

WVU Tech faced a tough Wright State side and saw its best push come in Game 3, when the Golden Bears forced overtime before falling 4–3.

Game results:

  • Game 1: L, 1–6
  • Game 2: L, 0–1
  • Game 3: L, 3–4 (OT)
  • Game 4: L, 2–5

Match 2: University of Mount Union (Feb. 18)

Result: L, 3–4

The Golden Bears responded with their most competitive series of the season to date, trading wins throughout the night and forcing a winner take all Game 7.

WVU Tech grabbed Game 1 in overtime, earned a key bounce back win in Game 4, then stayed alive with a 1–0 shutout in Game 6 to push the series the distance. Mount Union ultimately took Game 7 to seal the match.
