MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — WVU Tech wrestling wrapped up day one of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Championships Friday, pushing four Golden Bears through to day two of the conference tournament.
Luke Carpenter, Corbyn Cunningham, Jeremiah Chinyere-Okiyi II, and Alexander Tempus will continue wrestling Saturday as the championship meet resumes at 10 a.m.
As a team, WVU Tech finished the opening day with six points in the standings.
Golden Bears still alive for Saturday
- 141 — Luke Carpenter: 2–1 overall. Opened with an 11–3 major decision over Louis Mehaffey (Montreat), then had another 19–5 major decision win over Caleb Benton (Truett McConnell). Carpenter will face Anthony Santos (Keiser) next.
- 149 — Corbyn Cunningham: 1–1 overall. Picked up a 15–0 technical fall over Caden Thorne (Pikeville) before falling to Mario De La Torre (Southeastern). Cunningham will meet Arthur Reed (Brewton-Parker) next.
- 184 — Alexander Tempus: 1–1 overall. Earned a 14–10 decision over Jonathon Paramore (Reinhardt) before dropping his second bout. Tempus will face Diogo Ramos-Padilha (St. Thomas) next.
- 133 — Jeremiah Chinyere-Okiyi II: Remains in the bracket and will wrestle Derrique Mytial (Keiser) next after his opening bout.
