Golden Bears open RSC tourney at Brescia Wednesday

BECKLEY, W.Va. – No. 4E WVU Tech women's basketball opens postseason play Wednesday night, traveling to Owensboro, Kentucky for a River States Conference Championship First Round matchup at No. 1W Brescia University. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. EST inside the Moore Center.

The Golden Bears enter the tournament at 16-10 overall. Tech has gone 8-5 at home, 7-5 on the road and 1-0 on neutral floors this season while averaging 70.3 points per game.

Brescia brings a 22-6 overall mark into the postseason. The Bearcats average 73.3 points per game and lead the RSC in scoring defense, allowing just 59.1 points per contest.

First Meeting

Brescia claimed an 89-83 win over WVU Tech on Feb. 14 in Beckley. The Bearcats shot 45 percent from the field and were 28-for-36 at the free throw line in the contest.

WVU Tech had four players score in double figures and shot 39 percent from the floor in that matchup. The Golden Bears forced 17 turnovers and kept the game within one possession late in the fourth quarter before Brescia converted key free throws down the stretch.

Tech is shooting 39.6 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from three-point range on the season while connecting on 72.0 percent of its free throws.

The Golden Bears average 39.1 rebounds per game and have dished out 382 assists, an average of 14.7 per contest.

Individually, Cadence Stewart leads the team with 14.7 points per game while shooting 43.4 percent overall and 45.8 percent from three. She has knocked down 66 triples this season.

At the point, Emmanuella Amaefula leads the Golden Bears with 80 assists and averages 3.2 assists per game.

Alexis Sexton adds 12.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Emily Wratchford averages 7.1 points and 2.0 assists per game, while Alaira Evans contributes 8.1 points per contest.

By the Numbers – Brescia

Brescia is led by a balanced scoring attack with three players averaging double figures.

Brooklyn Stewart averages 11.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting 50.7 percent from the field.

Jenna Krampe is averaging 11.3 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game while shooting 75.1 percent from the floor.

Caroline Lucas adds 11.3 points per game and is shooting 81.6 percent at the free throw line.

As a team, the Bearcats average 17.0 assists per game and 44.0 rebounds per contest.

Tournament Path

With a win, WVU Tech would advance to the RSC Semifinals on Feb. 28 against the winner of No. 2E Shawnee State and No. 3W IU Kokomo.
