Golden Bears shine at Tim Weaver Memorial

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — WVU Tech track and field continued its outdoor season with a strong showing at the Tim Weaver Memorial, highlighted by two school records, multiple podium finishes and a wide range of contributions across both the men's and women's teams.

Freshman Isaac Agee led the way for the Golden Bears with a record-setting performance, winning the 110-meter hurdles in a personal-best and school-record 14.78, while also capturing first place in the long jump with a season-best 6.73 meters (22-01.00).

On the women's side, senior Nevaeh Wooding added another school record for WVU Tech, totaling 2,037 points in the heptathlon with a strong all-around performance across all seven events.

In the hurdles, WVU Tech placed three athletes on the podium as Ralph Aaron Etaba Ateba finished second in 16.04, and John Ashton took third in 17.61, giving Tech a strong presence in the event.

Freshman Rebecca Lorincz delivered one of the top performances of the meet, placing third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.93, while also finishing fifth in the 200 meters (28.46).

The Golden Bears saw continued progress across the sprint group. Chucky Jordan paced Tech in the 100 meters with an 11.65, followed by Isaac Agee (11.73) and Carlos Enrique Parra Soto (11.86). Additional efforts came from Benjamin Niles (12.09), Adrin Jijo (12.15), Matias Serrano (12.18), John Ashton (12.30), David Syvertsen (12.30), Christian Piewe (12.41), Owen Cameron (13.04), Jeremy Szabo (13.58), Iain Furman (13.60) and Samuel Whitcomb (13.77).

In the 200 meters, Parra Soto recorded a personal-best 23.90, while Crutcher Hutchison also posted a personal-best 24.45. Benjamin Niles (24.43), Matias Serrano (25.25), Adrin Jijo (25.27), Owen Cameron (25.73), David Syvertsen (26.07) and Jeremy Szabo (26.92) rounded out a deep group performance.

Middle-distance efforts were led by Tommy Wikel, who ran 2:09.07 in the 800 meters, while David Maxson (2:14.10), Samuel Whitcomb (2:23.58) and Travis Anderson (2:27.51) also competed. In the 1500 meters, Evan McElwayne posted a 4:33.49, and Anderson added a 4:58.56.

The distance group saw a strong finish from Tor Magnuc Wathe, who placed sixth in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:28.67.

In the field events, WVU Tech saw contributions across multiple disciplines. Colton Henderson recorded a personal-best 25.00 meters in the hammer throw, while also throwing 33.42 meters in the discus. Matthew Rhodes added marks of 24.64 meters in the hammer, 18.24 meters in the javelin and 8.99 meters in the shot put, while Nicholas Vincent contributed in three events with 18.23 meters in the hammer, 34.67 meters in the javelin and 7.96 meters in the shot put.

Brady Smith posted 10.68 meters in the shot put and 34.03 meters in the discus, continuing to build depth in the throws group.

Wooding's record-setting heptathlon included a personal-best 30.14 in the 200 meters, along with marks of 20.75 in the hurdles, 1.29 meters in the high jump, 8.52 meters in the shot put, 17.83 meters in the javelin and 3:14.63 in the 800 meters.

Jadyn Farmer added performances in every heptathlon event, including 29.84 in the 200 meters, 21.39 in the hurdles, 4.12 meters in the long jump, 3:07.05 in the 800 meters and throws in both the shot put and javelin.

Lexie Wikel contributed in the distance events with a 2:53.19 in the 800 meters and 5:53.23 in the 1500 meters, while Abby Holley competed in the throws with marks of 16.51 meters in the hammer, 13.41 meters in the discus and 6.31 meters in the shot put.

With two school records, multiple podium finishes and strong participation across sprint, distance and field events, the Golden Bears continued to build momentum early in the outdoor season.
