BECKLEY, W.Va. — Shiloh Goodwin scored in the 10th minute and WVU Tech women's soccer held the lead until late in the second half before settling for a 1-1 draw with Cumberland University Tuesday afternoon at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Sports Complex. The Golden Bears moved to 4-3-1 and extended their unbeaten streak to three matches.
WVU Tech was on the attack early. Rocío Gutiérrez forced Cumberland goalkeeper Sydney Eads into a save in the seventh minute, and Goodwin followed with an attempt on goal in the eighth. Goodwin broke through at 9:23, scoring after an initial attempt was blocked to give the Golden Bears a 1-0 advantage.
Senior Sofia Filgueira put another shot on goal less than a minute later, while Maria Rodriguez forced a save in the 17th. Juana Crespo nearly doubled the advantage when her attempt struck the crossbar in the 32nd minute, and Sigurros Hauksdottir followed with another shot on frame.
Tech took the 1-0 lead into halftime after outshooting Cumberland 8-1 and putting six attempts on goal. Eads made five saves in the opening 45 minutes.
Junior Julia Silva sent an attempt wide early in the second half before senior Korinne Potter put a shot on goal in the 54th minute that Eads turned away. Cumberland began creating more opportunities as the half progressed, but freshman goalkeeper Irene Saldaña kept Tech in front with a save on Uxia Varela in the 66th minute.
Varela eventually found the equalizer at 83:01, tying the match at 1-1. Neither side found another goal over the final seven minutes as the Golden Bears earned the draw.
Goodwin led WVU Tech with three shots, putting two on goal and scoring her fourth goal of the season. Potter added two shots, while Filgueira, Rodriguez, Hauksdottir and Gutiérrez each put an attempt on frame. Saldaña finished with two saves over 90 minutes.
The Golden Bears finished with an 11-4 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. Eads made six saves for Cumberland, while Tech remained unbeaten at home at 2-0-1.
Through eight matches, WVU Tech has scored 13 goals on 105 shots, putting 45 on goal. The Golden Bears have also recorded 26 corner kicks and 27 saves.

WVU Tech closes out its four-match homestand Saturday, Sept. 19, when the Golden Bears welcome Lindsey Wilson College to the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Sports Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
