William Hughes

Hughes enters his fourth year as WVU Tech's head women's and men's swimming coach this season. The Pax, West Virginia Mayor and native helped lead swimmers to the NAIA National Championship in two of his first three seasons as head coach.

Hughes is a former WVU Tech assistant men's basketball coach (2014-18) who helped the team to national tournament appearances. He graduated from Tech with a bachelors degree in history and government in 2016, following that up with a masters degree at Liberty University in 2018. He is currently pursuing a Ph. D. of history in higher education through Liberty.

After graduating from Mount Hope High School in 1990, Hughes spent four years in the Navy and then 15 years working for the Department of Defense and civilian contract work. He is also a former USA/YMCA Swimming Stroke and Turn Judge and Referee.
