Jeremy Bloom enters his sixth year as a coach (third as head coach) since joining WVU Tech in 2015. Bloom assisted prior to assuming the role of head cross-country/track & field coach in 2018.
The two-time River States Conference Coach of the Year (2018 and 2019), he has guided six teams (both as an assistant and head coach) to top-25 end-of-season national rankings (NAIA).
Bloom has had the honor of mentoring 19 NAIA All-Americans, 37 NAIA Individual National Championship Qualifiers, and several dozen exceptional RSC Champion and All-Conference student-athletes, immediately and creatively establishing a culture of success and a tradition of excellence for the program.
“I have had the fortune to advise and train a wonderfully diverse group of people at WVU Tech. This group of students has allowed me the great benefit to not only teach numerous future engineers, nurses, physicians (and even future coaches) the process to becoming an improved athlete, but to learn from some of the brightest, talented, relentlessly driven, and dynamic young people I’ve ever met.
We focus on process over outcomes, and though the numbers relating to success are easy to articulate (number of Nationally Ranked Teams, All-Americans, Conference Champions, etc...), the priority internally always has been and always will be the process toward improvement and not the end-result. This way, you win-win because everything, even the difficulties, are part of a process toward bettering yourself. Placing priorities on winning, though of course we want to win, sets you up for win-lose. So we choose the former. And I’ve had the great benefit to see this put into action by intensely methodical, process-oriented, brilliant students.”
Taking full advantage of the outdoor paradise that is southern West Virginia, Bloom enjoys long distance gravel/dirt bike riding, adventuring, and anything involving the New River Gorge. Parenting three strong-willed children, he and his immensely accomplished spouse (Dr. Melissa Keaton) are pridefully active participants in the betterment of the City of Beckley.
