Kathryn Cambell (Vacacille, CA) earns her first Student-Athlete of the week honors after helping her team jump out to a 4-0 start to the 2012 season.  In Tech’s opening game against Johnson C. Smith University, Katy went 3-4 at the plate and drove in 2 runs in a 6-4 win.  In the night cap, Campbell drew 2 walks and scored twice for the Golden Bears in an 18-4 victory over Virginia University of Lynchburg.

Campbell’s hot bat didn’t cool over night, much to Tech’s opponent’s dismay.  Katy went 1-4 in game one of two on Sunday against a solid Montreat team.  Her 2 runs batted in helped elevate the Golden Bears to a 5-2 victory and served as a warm up for the final game of the week against Bluefield College.  Katy finished strong against the Rams with a 4-4 performance at the plate that included 1 walk, 4 runs scored and 2 additional runs batted in.

The solid start to her career in Blue and Gold has found Katy leading the team in hits (8) and RBI’s (6).  Nationally, Campbell also finds herself with a view from the top - ranking fist in NAIA Division I in fielding percentage (100%), third in hits per game (2.67), sixth in runs scored per game (2) and in at bats per game (6).  She also ranks eighth in batting average (.667), tenth in total bases per game (3.67), eleventh in runs batted in per game (2), eighteenth in chances per game (8.33), twenty-sixth in home runs per game (.33), thirty-first in putouts per game (.33) and fortieth in slugging percentage (.917).
