CHARLESTON, W. Va. - The men's soccer team of WVU Tech is the No.1 seed in the 2013 USCAA National Tournament and proved their ranking Thursday evening. The Golden Bears earned their tenth straight win with a 7-0 shutout over the University of Maine at Machias.
Tech improves its record to 16-2-1 for the season while Maine-Machias dropped to 19-2 with the loss at Schoenbaum Stadium.
The Golden Bears out shined their opponent in shots, 26-2 and corner kicks, 6-2. Defense for Tech worked hard to contribute to the win, allowing only one shot in each half.
In the first half, the Tournament host, Tech, stopped the clock due to goals scored, four times. Freshman
Arthur Duchense gave the team a quick lead, 1-0 in the eigth minute off the assist from junior
Juan Suarez.
Senior
Dennis Fuerst tied his season-high with three goals against the Clippers, scoring goals two, five, and six for the Golden Bears, including a penalty kick.
Senior
Jorge Zapata received a pass from Duchense at 25:52 to take the score to 2-0. Senior
Tyler Fabian strengthened the lead ten minutes later with the assist coming from senior
Jonathan Eske.
Freshman
Tobee Oleyele scored his fourth goal of the season from Suarez's second assist of the match-up, making it a 7-0 final.
Senior
Joe Jackson also grabbed an assist in the second half when he found Fuerst for his second goal.
Freshman goalkeeper
Hunter Moles is credited with another win and one save.
WVU Tech will face No. 5 Lindenwood University - Bellville in the quarter finals of the USCAA National Tournament Friday evening. The match-up at Schoenbaum is scheduled to kick-off at 6:15 p.m. Live coverage will be available
