PARKERSBURG, West Virginia - The WVU Tech volleyball team defeated West Virginia University Parkersburg, 3-1, Wednesday evening in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
After winning the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-17, Parkersburg retaliated to take set three, 25-21. The Golden Bears regrouped and proceeded to win the match and improve to 3-15 this season with a set three score of 25-20.
Tech was led to the victory by the trio of senior
Haley Pauley and sophomores
Mackenzie Snare and
Brianna Bench.
Pauley and Snare recorded double-doubles. Pauley had a match-high 16 kills, 10 digs and two service aces while Snare marked three new career-highs with 23 digs, 10 kills and four aces to go with her 2.5 (two solo / one assisted) blocks. Bench ended the match with six kills, three digs, a block and an ace.
Junior
Jacque Carroll came away with 27 assists, four kills, 3.5 (three solo / one assisted) blocks, two aces and two digs. Redshirt freshman
Michala Dean notched 13 assists, nine digs and a kill.
On defense, junior
Chelsea Dean led the team with 38 digs while marking two of each for assists, kills and aces. Other Tech contributors included junior
Noelle Day (16 digs) and sophomores
Brianna Whaley (14 digs) and
Hannah Atkins (four kills and one block).
As a team, Tech produced 125 digs, 11 aces and blocks and 43 kills.
WVU Tech will look to continue this momentum when they host the University of Charleston-Beckly Friday, 7:00 p.m. The teams faced each other earlier this season, resulting in a Tech victory, 3-0 on Sept. 19.
